Upcoming Changes to Disneyland

Hey guys! I wanted to give you a quick update on the new changes that are happening at the Disneyland theme parks this year. There are several changes coming soon, let’s get this list going!

No Smoking:

This is a huge change for a lot of folks out there. As of May 1st, Disneyland theme parks and Downtown Disney will ban smoking in their parks and shopping center. As of right now, there are a couple smoking areas per park, those will be completely eliminated. The smoking area near Big Thunder Railroad will be turned into a waiting area, for those who are waiting to get into the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during the soft opening. Guests will now be expected to exit the parks and security to a new smoking zone. And yes, this is for vapors too!

No Double Wide Strollers:

The second new change is going to affect those that use a double-wide oversized stroller for their children. Strollers will not be allowed into the parks if they are wider than 31 inches. The current limit is 36 inches, so quite a bit of a change! The parks will also go back to enforcing its ban on wagons inside both Disneyland and California Adventure. Don’t fret! Disney now has double strollers that are the tandem style for you to rent. This means the children will sit behind each other instead of side by side. This is going to free up a lot of extra space that normally oversized strollers would be taking up. With the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge soft opening just around the corner, I think this will help with a lot of the congestion.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Get ready folks, because Disneyland is expecting to open Galaxy’s Edge on May 31st. Disney World will follow shortly after on August 29th in Hollywood Studios. During phase one of the opening, you will be able to enter the new expansion to experience the sights and sounds of Batuu. Ogas Cantina and the new attraction Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will be available for you to ride and explore as well. However, you will have to wait until later on in the year for phase two to experience the second new attraction Star Wars: Rise of The Resistance!

If you plan on visiting Disneyland’s new land between May 31st and June 23rd, you will need a valid theme park admission ticket and you will be required to make a no-cost reservation to enter the new land. All reservations will be subject to availability. If you decide to stay in one of Disney’s resorts, you will receive one reservation per guest so that you are guaranteed access to the new park. Park admission tickets are still required.

What to expect at Galaxy’s Edge Disneyland:

This 14-acre land is the largest expansion in this park’s history. There will be two new rides, four eateries, one Cantina and five new retail shops.

Disney is introducing a virtual queuing system that will allow park-goers to enjoy the rest of the park until your boarding pass calls you to enter the land. Much like a restaurant buzzer that buzzes when your table is ready.

In other news:

Disney’s California Adventure will be adding Mickeys Philhar Magic to California Adventure at the Sunset Showcase Theater in April. For those of you who have not experienced this 3D show at Disney World, it is a real treat! This new attraction will be another way to enjoy your favorite characters in a nice air-conditioned musical adventure!

A couple extra freebie changes worth mentioning:

*Celebrating 90 years of mickey magic with Get Your Ears On, a Mickey and Minnie Celebration.

*Mickeys Mix Magic nighttime projection show.

*Mickeys Soundsational Parade.

*Festive foods- mickey shaped and new merchandise.

What changes do you think will make the biggest impact on park goers? Did we leave anything out? Let us know by leaving a comment below!
